Dinner. Television. Sleep.

The Private Identity Intel is a Friday letter for women over 50 who have built something and are carrying something they have not said out loud. If this is the first time you have found your way here, you can receive it privately each Friday. Any email works, including one only you check.

Inside the Public-Private Gap

Side by side, every night, for over a year.

No touch. No intimacy. No conversation about the absence of either.

Just… fine.

I told myself we were solid. We had longevity. We had history. We had a life built together.

What we did not have was each other.

Not really.

I was deep in my real estate career. Building something. Focused. She was there when I came home, and that felt like enough.

I did not think she needed more.

I did not think I needed more.

I was wrong on both counts.

This is what friend mode looks like from the inside.

Not a bad relationship.

Not a loveless one.

A quiet one.

The kind where you stop reaching for each other so gradually that you do not notice the distance until it has become the whole room.

I loved her. I want to be clear about that.

But love without desire is a different kind of relationship from the one most people believe they are building.

And when it ended, the grief was not only losing her.

It was losing the years.

The year we did not touch.

The years before that when the distance began closing in and neither of us named it.

That ending was one of the most painful things I have ever walked through.

Second only to losing my mother.

What I Have Learned Since

Some of the women who find their way to this work are not in visibly troubled marriages.

They are in quiet ones.

Marriages where everything looks fine from the outside.

Marriages where they are good partners, good mothers, good professionals.

Marriages where they have not been touched in months. Sometimes years.

Marriages where they have started to wonder if the desire they feel for someone else means something is wrong with them.

It does not mean something is wrong with them.

It may mean that something has gone quiet that was never meant to disappear without being named.

And for some of them, the desire is not for another man.

It is for a woman.

And that is a different kind of quiet altogether.

The Real Work

Desire does not always disappear because you ignore it.

Sometimes it waits.

It appears in the middle of the night, in a hotel bathroom mirror, or in a conversation that goes somewhere unexpected.

The women who come to me are not looking to blow up their lives.

They are looking for one honest conversation.

A place to say what they have been carrying without being pushed toward a label, an announcement, or a decision they are not ready to make.

That is what I offer.

Privately. One woman at a time.

If this is your season, you do not need to know what comes next. You only need one private place where you can hear yourself clearly.

Begin privately with One Private Room.

If something here is yours, you can email me privately. If you receive this letter by email, you can simply reply. I read each one personally.
